wedding planning check list update

booksI learned this week that the VISTA Leader we hired for our office got engaged a couple of weeks ago.  I asked her if she was nervous about wedding planning and she told me about how much she has checked off her list in just the two weeks since becoming engaged.  Ceremony and reception venues booked, catering booked, cake booked, DJ booked…she has accomplished a lot and she still has 11 months ago until her wedding day!

“I’m probably really crazy, huh?” she asked. I gave her a high-five telling her we had taken that same approach to planning our own wedding, too.

Which brings me to our updated wedding planning list:

Jess and Steven’s Completed Wedding Item Check List:

  • Photographer booked
    • Engagement session completed
  • Catering booked
    • Menu created

    • 2nd dress fitting scheduled

  • Wedding website completed

  • NEW – Started purchasing wedding party gifts
  • NEW – Possible wedding shower location selected

So this really leaves the following big items to be completed:

  • Wedding party attire: After the holidays, we’re planning a trip to David’s Bridal.  Steven’s groomsmen are also planning to get together and get their suits from Men’s Warehouse. Steven and I are both feeling very chill about it – our bridal party is going to look beautiful/handsome no matter what they’re wearing.
  • Rehearsal dinner planning: We have a good idea right now about what we’re doing for the rehearsal dinner and where to have it since it’s going to be fairly low key.
  • Bridal shower/bachelorette party planning: The location of the wedding shower has been selected but we haven’t set a date just yet. It’s looking like we’re going to have it at the same location as our wedding reception in an upstairs room. My mom and my bridesmaids are planning to work together after the holidays to get the ball rolling but I’ve been talking with my mom about keeping it simple. Hey, as long as the food is good and everyone is comfortable, that’s what matters to me!
  • Miscellaneous reception decorations and items: I was hoping to take advantage of Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales to buy a few items on my list for decorating the reception but the sales on wedding items weren’t that great.

I may be jinxing myself but at 187 days until the wedding, we both are feeling pretty great about everything! We’ve accomplished a lot and we are way under our projected budget.  Let’s hope it stays that way!
